SUPREME COURT OF INDIA · 2 June 2026 · 2026 INSC 620

Sonal Talpada v. Veerbhan Singh

The Supreme Court considered cruelty and prolonged separation and sustained dissolution, also invoking Article 142 in the circumstances.

What to keep in mind: The result turns on the evidence and circumstances. Article 142 is a Supreme Court power, not an automatic family-court route.

SUPREME COURT OF INDIA · 27 May 2026 · 2026 INSC 577

Salil Dhawan v. Priyanshi Ghai

After a failed mutual-consent process and prolonged separation, the Supreme Court dissolved the marriage under Article 142, subject to permanent alimony and directions closing related proceedings.

What to keep in mind: A first motion does not itself complete a divorce. The financial award in this case is not a formula for other couples.
